How Can High Blood Pressure Be Treated?

What is the best high blood pressure medicine for me. I am 85 years old and see that most of the blood pressure meds have the side effect of edema. My ankles and feet swelled up yesterday. They are better today because I had my feet elevated last night. Both Nifedipine and Amiodipine have the side effect of Edema. Why would I want either of them? A Cardiologist put me on Nifedipine, and the Dr. who treats my Thyroid problem wants me on Amiodipine. Should I be taking either of them? If not, what do you suggest?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I suggest you to check your BP and ECG and consult your physician and request him about all the medications you are using now. Meanwhile I suggest you to take T.Furosemide OD(once daily after food) for 3 days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
