How Can Hot And Cold Flashes Be Managed?

My 56 year old husband works 7a-3:30p outside at his job. Takes blood pressure medicine and cholesterol medicine. When he comes home he strips off all his clothes because he is so hot and does not want to get the furniture sweaty. Then, after about 2 hours he gets the chills and is so cold he shivers and cannot get warm. He says he feels like he is going to die. He normal temp is 96.6 when he takes he temp during these episodes it is 100-101. He drinks water {3-4 16oz. bottles plus 24oz. PowerAde Free}. He takes a cool shower when he gets home. I don t know what else to do for him. Please help me help him.

Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

I appreciate your health concern about your husband, he may be suffering from andropause symptoms in which the testosterone levels are fall slowly with age but in few cases they fall abruptly lead to a sensation of warmth that comes on suddenly, heavy sweating and reddening of the skin. Treatment with avoid alcohol, smoking, coffee, spicy food, warm room temperatures, tight or heavy clothing.
So you may need to get it done serum testosterone levels, use if it is low need testosterone replacement therapy. Use alternate medication under your doctor guidance in case of prostate malignancy.
If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
