Hello my name is jason clark and I live in the tigard oregon area., about 6 miles south of downtown portland oregon.
I'm interested in the beginning a voluntary drug testing protocol with myself. Probably the first thing you want to know is a reason why I would do that, and I guess the answer is a bit complex. My family lives on the east coast and somehow seem to have gotten the idea that I have some type of drug problem. I did go to a locally based treatment center (Hazelden), but besides not testing positive for any drugs was told that I didn't really fit in with their system, and we agreed together that perhaps something different would be a better alternative. Progress was made when I attended the well reknown Menninger Clinic in it west houston texas in mid november. Clinically they found a vitamin b 12 deficiency there. I'm more practical level, while non clinical, they did advise me in writing of a 'phase of life issue-minor and in terms of treatment and follow up for that they advised that I attend a family group therapy session which would take place in maine or boston. A list of doctors and therapists was provided to myself and also my mother who attended my final days at menninger. It's been quite difficult for me to even consider doing such a thing where I live so far away and am a bit budget limited these days. However I do take the clinic' s recommendations very seriously. And while they called my condition just a phase of life and also minor, I do take into consideration that this is the menninger clinic... And what they call minor should be taken in the context of the very serious cases they typically deal with there.
My family came away unimpressed with the diagnosis at menninger. There is a financial squabble going on in the background and I will get not get into that. Certainly though it's apparent that they still think I'm on some kind of drugs. The problem with that tends to be that if somebody is on drugs or is not, they typically give the same answer. What should I do? One thing I have tried is going to a local walk in clinic, and have done a DOT certified drug test there but it typically cost almost 50 dollars a pop. I did about 10 tests and my family did seem satisfied with the results which were all negative. It might be better to see a private physician or at least something less expensive. I did like the regimented atmosphere where re where they turned the plumbing off in the room, stood right outside the door had me remove my hat and some clothing etc. If I'm going to do it I might as well do it right and I am familiar with some of the creative ways that people try to get around these type of things. So with that context, my question is : where should I go if I would like to look into some kind of drug testing for myself? A private doctor? Somebody told me I might want to consider the fairly inexpensive self testing kits they're available however utilize a doctor's office with a doctor in it to oversee the proper administration of standard procedures in terms of collection of urine etc with another advantage being that possibly the doctor could send that out to a lab making the results more third party verified then if I were to send the sample out myself. Is there some kind of a good public program that might be available on the cheap? I know a few RNs, would it be appropriate to ask them about this are they really qualified enough to oversee such a thing perhaps even on their off time? Or should a qualified doctor be involved at all times. I'm thinking Id like to get tested every other day... is that overkill? Those general questions would probably be as much help to me as more researched answers, but if you have time perhaps you could recommend some actual names and so forth in the portland or tigard area.
thank you very much
Jason Clark
