How Can Increased TSH Level During Pregnancy Be Reduced?
Hi, I am a 32 year old female with 2 kids (5 and 1 year). During second pregnancy (IIIrd month), I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid (TSH level 21.2) which came to 6.2 in 2 months by eltroxin treatment. However I left the treatment after delivery. Now within a year, My weight has been increased by 15-18 Kg and last ,month my period was late by 12 days. I got my TSH level checked and it was 250. Please help..
Hi and thanks for the query, It might be very difficult to establish clear guidelines to manage hyperthyroidism in pregnancy. There are m,any physiologic changes in pregnancy that also alter thyroid function. Depedning on whether the patient had thyroid disease before becoming pregnant or not, if the patient has been on these drugs before or not, and if yes, response to medications. An endocrinologist and obstetrician need to work closely, especially in very high risk pregnancies. consult your obstetrician for care. Kind regards
Hi, I went through your query. Your tsh levels are very high and you should be taking thyroxine regularly. I would advise you not to leave the treatment on your own. Instead you might probably have to continue it all your life. Again a delay in your periods does not necessarily mean a pregnancy. It could be due to your hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism causes a large number of problems even when you are not pregnant , like weight gain, easy fatiguability, metabolic problms and also mood changes. So do continue with your treatment with regular tests in between. Hope this helps.
