Resently diagnosed with hypothyroid. I developed red itchy bumps prior to diagnosis. My oncologist and dermatologist thinks it s a result of the chemotherapy. After reading the side effects of the thyroid medication I m wondering if that s what s causing the bumps. It s getting worse. Oncologist gives me Benedryl prior to infusion, to no avail. I m currently taking 75 MCG Levothyroxine. I try to avoid gluten, soy, grains, dairy, and sugar. Although I do eat a handful of walnuts almost daily. Any suggestions? YYYY@YYYY
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Seems like you have Hives. Most likely it is the chemotherapy that induces those Hives. I suggest you to take an oral Antihistamine, e.g., either Cetrizine tablet or Loratadine tablet once every evening, starting from the day prior to the chemotherapy. Continue for a few days after infusion. I also suggest you to apply a soothing lotion, e.g., Calamine lotion to calm the rashes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards
Dr. Kakkar S.
