Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
My dear, do you know how to manage the pockets in your bowel? That is the first step, to get your bowels regulated.
Diverticulosis is the uninfected state of the pockets in the bowel. Those are treated by gradually increasing fiber to 20 or 25 g per day while drinking 8 cups of clean water per day. Increasing fiber too quickly will cause gas cramping.
Try to stay away from things that might get stuck in the pockets, like
corn, popcorn kernals, unchewed pieces of food, etc. One doctor I worked with insisted peas were a problem.
When those pockets do get filled up and infected, you will get
diarrhea and
fever and end up hospitalized. This is what you try to avoid with the high fiber diet and avoiding seeds, corn etc. When infected you need to go on a low fiber low residue diet meaning no milk, no fruit skin, white bread, eggs instead of cereal, etc. Tell them to give you a copy of the diet.
When you come home and the infection is gone gradually start increasing fiber and water.
I hope this explanation helped somewhat.
