I am a 25 year old male that is terrified for his eyes. I have been wearing glasses since I was 9 years old, and my vision had been worsening every year. However, it had been worsening slower, making me think that my myopia had finally begun to stabilize. My last Rx was back in Dec 2016 after 2 years of a stable prescription, where the optometrist noted the following: OD -7.50 OS -7.75 Cylinder -0.75 to OD -7.75 OS -8.25 Cylinder -0.75 I have been on Accutane 40 mg per day for the past 4 months, and felt my eyesight worsening, so I went to go get it checked by my optometrist last week. Within 6 months of my last Rx, my eyesight had worsened to: OD -8.00 (worse by -0.25) OS -9.00 (worse by -0.75) Cylinder -0.75 My optometrist did a dilated slit lamp dilation on me, and told me that both my retina and macula are very healthy. I have stopped Accutane about 3 days ago, and have an appointment with an ophthalmologist in a week for a more comprehensive exam. I should note that I have noticed that even though I am myopic in both eyes, I ve noticed that looking at close objects with my left eye (with glasses) has become more clear than my right (perhaps onset of hyperopia in my right eye?) I do have some bad habits, such as: reading my phone in the dark with it glued to my face for hours. Frequent time spent on the computer for work. Since then, I ve been trying to mediate the damage to my eyes, including warm compresses, fish oil supplements, and minimizing the time spent on my phone. Should I be concerned? I had really hoped my prescription would have stabilized by now, and I m frankly terrified by this sudden increase. My optometrist told me not to worry since her own vision is worse (-10.00 in both eyes, mid-30s), and that she has worked with patients with much worse eyesight, but I can t help but be worried because this increase happened in such a small time frame, especially during a period where most people seem to have stabilized.
