How Can Nail Fungal Infection Be Treated?

Good afternoon, my name is Stan. I have a nail fungus with an unbearable twist. on my finger along side the nail a small narrow tube-like section of skin that is about the color of a blister. that runs from the side of the nail to a little red dot . the dot is incredibly sensitive, it turns brown in a couple days and looks like a splinter. I have tried to pull it out with tweezers. it feels hard and brittle sometimes and soft like thread other times. I have got little pieces (very tiny) to come out but it recedes inside my finger and disappears. it is so sensitive it has affected most all I do even warm water makes me want to jump out of my skin sometimes. it is not always that extreme but any7time I need to do tasks that require use of my finger tips it affects and sometime stop what I m doing. Any ideas? maybe a parasite. oh I have also pulled out a tiny thread smaller than hair about .25in long. hope you have good news.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

1. Maintain good hygiene and trim nails regularly.
2. Apply an antifungal lotion like Clotrimazole lotion twice daily on affected nails.
3. Other treatment options are oral Fluconazole, Itraconazole, and Terbinafine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
