Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 16 year old daughter was given cymbalta for chronic pain. She is currently taking 60mg. She is experiencing unfavorable side effects. Breast pain and depression. What is the best way to taper off of this medication? Does cymbalta cause depression? She was not depressed when she started taking it
I can understand your concern. Cymbalta is Duloxetine and the drug is a SNRI drug. The drug is basically an anti depressant drug so this will not increase depressive symptoms. She is on 60 mg Duloxetine and abrupt stoppage of this drug might result in withdrawal symptoms. It is advisable to reduce the doses gradually over 6-10 weeks to prevent withdrawal and relapse of symptoms. Doses should be reduced by about 20% every two weeks progressively. Dose reduction in this manner will not cause serious symptoms.
