How Can One Manage Pain Under The Right Rib Cage, Diarrhea, Headache And Night Sweats?

Hi. I was diagnosed with crohns disease almost two years ago. I have been med free for about a year now. For the past two weeks I have been having very sharp pain in my right side under my ribs towards the front wrapping around to the back. With this I have also been having yellow stools around 8 times a day and have had yellow discharge from my anus. I have no fever but very terrible headaches and nights sweats. Please help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about having Crohn's disease which is off the medication for about a year but developed lose and frequent stools with pain as explained, headache, night seats.
These are indicative of an intestinal infection.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Send the stool and blood samples for lab.
X-ray and Ultrasonography of abdomen.
Clinical evaluation by your Doctor and second opinion of a Gastroenterologist.
All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and thus help in formatting a plan of management.
A course of an antibiotic, metronidazole can help if there is any intestinal infection.
Referred pain to back needs to exclude any neurological affections and investigations as needed for proper diagnosis and management.
Also take symptomatic management as needed.
Take plenty of oral fluids to maintain hydration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
