How Can Pain And Weakness After A Back Injury Be Treated?
Hi I am 77 years old. Two months ago I fell on my back and damaged my back. I have enjoyed some healing but still have pain and weakness , especially when rising from a sitting position. I am concerned that The weakness will result in another fall. Should I see a physician? If so, what kind? Thank you, Ron Berry
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Post traumatic pain from back injury takes some time to heal, and it depends from the gravity of the injury, from the age of the patient, from other health problems of the patient. You can take anti inflamatory painkiller (Naproxen once daily for 2-3 weeks) for pain relief.
You can also consider physical therapy.
However, you should consult a neurologist for a thorough exam (physical examination , X -ray) to determine the damage.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
