Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 90 year old mother has been taking butran patches 5mcg. and lidocaine 5mg. She has a wedge fracture in her spine, Due to lack of minerals, would this be osteoporosis?. The pain is still prevalent and she cannot sleep without discomfort. The doctor has now increased the butrans to 10mcg. Is this a safe option and should the doctor be looking more at giving her cortisone injection? She has been, in my opinion, left to suffer this pain for too long.
Hello, Pain from a vertebralfracture can be very severe. It is hard to see how much pain medicine is useful and safe, not knowing her medical history. However, ask about the possibility of a vertebroplasty. This procedure can sometimes repair a compression fracture and get patients out of pain immediately Regards
