How Can Painful Stiffness In The Neck Caused By Cervical Arthritis Be Treated?

Yes, my son is active Army and he is presently completing his packet for commissioned officer. He was experiencing neck pain, i.e. a stiff neck for approximately 1 week which he treated a over the counter Rd and moist heat. He had to see the Army Doc and was ordered X Rayss which showed he had Arthritis of the neck C 3 4 &5. He is scheduled for an appt w the ND next week and is afraid this may prohibit his completing Officers Training. He is 34 years of age. Played basketball for app 14 years in schoo! And college. What would his best course of treatment be as far as Rd and would this prevent him for furthering his Army career? Thank you

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Physiotherapy is the best option for cervical spondylitis.
For symptomatic relief of pain ,combination of muscle relaxant and NSAID( Paracetamol+Chlorzoxazone and or Diclofenac) for a short period with antacid like Pantoprazole oral is usually effective.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
