How Can Pancreatic Atrophy Be Treated?

I am a 69 year old woman. At age21 I had thyroid cancer, so I have no thyroid. In 1988 my spleen was removed due to idiopathic thrombocytopenia. Now I have an atrophic pancreas. I am not diabetic, but my mom was. My youngest died of pancreas cancer when she was 52. My grandmother died of liver cancer when she was 57, so I m a bit worried. How do treat an atrophic pancreas?

Hi,

As per your clinical history, you should not be worried at all if you have no symptom and no underlying health conditions and it is not cancer so you can follow few lifestyle modifications like this-

1) Try to stop drinking alcohol and stop smoking.
2) Try to choose a low-fat diet. Choose a diet that limits fat and emphasizes fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Discuss with your dietitian to make a chart.
3) Try to drink more fluids throughout the day. It may help to keep a water bottle with you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
