How Can Pus In Stools, Alternating Constipation Or Diarrhea Be Treated?

I have had 12 surgeries in less than 2 yrs. Prior to that, I was perfectly healthy for more than 20 years. I have been diagnosed with IBS, had gallbladder and appendix removed, had igunal hernia repaired twice, and now have to have the mesh removed and the surgeon said he will suture site closed. Now i have pus in my stools. I have either constipation and have to use otc drugs to get movement, or I have diarrhea. There has to be an answer. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion your symptoms seem to be related to a gastrointestinal infection. I suggest you to do a stool test and a complete blood count to determine the cause of your symptoms. This way you can take the proper treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
