Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Recurrent Cold In A Child Be Treated Permanently And Is It To Do With Her Immunity?
I have an 8 year old daughter that is constantly catching colds, in the least every 2 weeks if not more. Shes in school and has been for 3 years. She has also been in childcare since infancy. Is this something I should be concerned about or something I should be doing to boost her immune system? Can allergies cause it?
Cold is a very common problem we come across in children. At least 8-10 episodes per year are common in school-going children. As long as your daughter recovers from the illness in a week's time and remains well in between episodes, I would not be very concerned. A good way to boost immunity is having a good balanced diet, which you could get advice from a dietician.
I would be concerned about low immunity if your daughter requires admission into a hospital for most of the illnesses with oxygen requirements or not gaining adequate weight. Regarding allergies, kindly look for any specific triggers before cold symptoms. If present, then I would suggest getting advice from a pediatric allergy specialist for further evaluation and treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
