How Can Seizures Type Spells And Stiffening Of Arms In A 6-year-old Be Treated?
My 6 or old granddaughter has seizure type spells where she stiffens her arms her jaw drops and moves to the side then she will make fists and push in her cheeks. These last only a few seconds to repeating for about 2 minutes. She does stare out for short periods prior to the seizure is this a seizure and what specialist should I be looking to take her to in Seattle
Your granddaughter exhibits symptoms consistent with a tonic seizure disorder. The staring portion could be the prodromal period before the limbs stiffen and part of the entire event... or she could also be having episodes of what we may refer to as absence types of seizures that may be separate for the stiffening.
Only a good examination and analysis with EEG can separate what's going on. She would best be managed by a pediatric epileptologist.
If I were in your position and wanted to have the best chance of finding a good person I would contact the University of Washington Medical Center, call their Neurology service and explain the situation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
