Hello,

Your grandmother is in a serious condition in the ICU. Steroids would contribute to the anxiety but may be necessary for her condition. Benzodiazepines give quicker control of anxiety than other medicines. Long term use may lead to habituation, but under the present condition use of benzodiazepine in the ICU may be discussed with the treating doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Noble Zachariah
