How Can Severe Pain In The Right Calf Be Treated?

I m 73yrs old, in good health. Female. This morning I hit my right leg , outside calf area with the bottom corner of the car door, when I was opening it. I normally have a high tolerance for pain, but this made me say ouch, and thought I probably would get a bruise from the hit. A few hours later I developed a pain , about the size of a half dollar, directly in the middle, back side of the right calf. It was extremely painful to walk. It s been over 8 hrs and the calf pain is still there, but not as intense. Could this be a blood clot??

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You need to go to the nearest medical center, for complete clinical assessment, X-ray of the leg as well as other routine tests depending on the initial findings. It's mostly the result of trauma which caused muscle swelling.

1- Rest your leg, by avoiding any physical activity until improvement.
2- Prescribe analgesics such as Ibuprofen.
3- Apply topical drugs such as Topical anti-inflammatory Gel.
4- Apply cold compressors to your joint, allow the pain and swelling to resolve quickly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
