I had a knee replacement in 20015 after that 6 months later I had a valve replaced (heart) than 4 Months later Another knee replacement. I have always been very active and I quit smoking 5 Years ago. I did all my cardio And then some I completed 8 weeks of physical therapy. I was a little short of breath before my valve surgery Now I am gaining weight about 40 Ibs because I cannot even walk without being short of breath. I am 67 and would like to continue traveling with my husband of 50 years (got married at 17) but I seem to be weak in my joints and hands and legs and I feel like the core of me needs building up. I have no strength, please help I really don’t want my husband to travel without me. Thank you very much Debra LaCoco

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

With the history of joint surgery cardiac surgery over weight, weakness is very likely, and just to avoid that cut down the high calorie diet, you must have been advised for the aerobic exercise and if not then you can discuss this with your doctor, you can even try multivitamin supplements, try stay away from the stress, with such medical condition travelling is doubtful, you need to be medically fit and for that you need to consult the medical team then and then you will be permitted for travelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
