How Can Side Effects Of Bactrim Be Managed?

I was diagnosed with a sinus and bladder infection late afternoon April 23rd. I had a ticket to fly toNewYork the next day. The next I was on the plane did not notice anything wrong. I was exhausted and took second dose .Within a half hour I was sick, Dizzy, upset stomach, shaky. I did sleep, but still feeling bad, I took the dose in the morning and felt even worse by afternoon. Now my throat , mouth and lips feel they were burned. the prescription is for the generic of Bactrim. Since I am out of network I don t know who to call.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Bactrim contains a combination of Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. Sulfamethoxazole is known to cause hypersensitivity/allergic reactions. Stop Bactrim and consult doctor for other suitable antibiotic. Antihistaminic drug like Levocetirizine is usually given to counter allergic reaction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T.K. Biswas
