How Can Sores Above The Rectum Be Treated?

My husband is 76 years old and had colon cancer a few years ago. It went into remission but has came back now in his lungs and in his back in his vertebra. He is currently taking chemo treatments. He has developed ulcer type sores on the area above his rectum. They look like holes. Open wound type places. Now he has several in that area and around his rectum. We have tried several ointments to try and get rid of this. He is in a lot of pain with it. Do you have any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Chemotherapy patients may prone for immunosuppression lead to ulcers formation. Possible causes like candida infection or cytomegalovirus infection or clostridium difgicale infection or chancroid etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your doctor he will take biopsy of ulcer and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
