How Can Stomach Pain Below The Rib Cage, Slight Shivers And Low Blood Sugar Be Managed?

For the past three days, I ve had a sort of stomach pain. It is located just below my ribs in the middle. I ve tried Pepto Bismol and gas-x but nothing seems to work. I had a bowel movement yesterday, and everything seemed normal. I have also been feeling a little shaky, almost like low blood sugar but I have eaten. Nothing seems to make it better or worse, it just remains constant. Any ideas what could relieve the pain?

Hello,

You are suffering from stomach pain below the rib cage, you are suggested to take PPIs, Pantoprazole (40 mg), once daily for 10 days. You will feel better. You should avoid skipping meals, skipping meals and not taking adequate amount of fluids and water causes weakness, low blood sugar level, low blood pressure hence shaky feeling, weakness and lightheadedness.

Take rest and quality sleep at night. You are suggested to avoid sedentary life. Stay active, do regular exercise and walking. Take high fiber diet, avoid constipation. Take laxatives, if you need for better bowel movement. Take Spasmol (spasmoproxyvon), one SOS when needed if cramps persist. Take home made food. Avoid spicy, oily fried food.

You should get clinically examined by a GP, get all tests and investigations done to detect appendicitis, gall stone problems, GERD, liver dysfunction, IBS, etc. You will be treated accordingly when the pathology causing symptoms is detected. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General Surgeon Dr. T Chandrakant's  Response
Hi,

Pain below the ribs in the center of the abdomen could be due to acid peptic disease causing gastritis or so, pancreatic pain, liver swelling, or ventral hernia with fat entrapment. This can be diagnosed by a careful history and examination by a doctor. Do ultrasound or CT scan if needed and upper GI endoscopy if required. Get relevant tests of blood like liver and pancreatic function tests. All this will give a proper diagnosis and thus allow a specific management if you are not getting relief by routine OTC medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
