How Can Suicidal Thoughts And Severe Depression Be Treated While On Abilify And Venlafaxine?

Hi my daughter 14 has depression, suicidal thoughts. She does cut herself but not really to attempt suicidebut to feel something. She does suffer from depression at times she is on Abilify and venlafaxine. She has smoked weed to calm her down buths stopped. I have many concerns but when she has what I call a manic attack, it comes on sudden extereme crying, can barely talk gets weak in the legs and talks about wanting to die. There is also hitting herself in the head and scratching her head. It usually lasts about 20 minutes then it slowly goes away. I know she has issues but the manic attack are my main concern, she does have a therapist and a medical doctor for depression, any ideas?

hello there. I can understand your concern for your daughter. Few things I would like to tell you on your query. First manic attacks you have mentioned but not explained the symptoms during manic attack. If your daughter having manic episodes like over talkativeness, overfamiliarity, increased self esteem with depressive episodes then diagnosis will change to bipolar disorder which has different treatment guidelines. Abilify and venlafaxine can help her with plain depressive disorder with psychosis. If I were your consulting psychiatrist, I would have given your daughter SSRI group of medicines and cognitive behavior therapy.
