How Can Swelling And Pain At The Injury Site Be Treated?
I got what I think was a metal splinter in my left ring finger at work washing dishes at 10:00am yesterday morning with a wire sponge. My husband and I were at the market at 7:00 pm tonight I notice my finger hurting a little. When I looked at it is when I saw the splinter and my husband bought a tweezer and removed the splinter. When he did it bled and I pushed on it to help it bleed. When we got home it really started to hurt and is a little warm and a little swollen and throbbing. I am soaking it in Epson salt. what do you advise.??
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a NSAID like iBuprofen for pain.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like Levofloxacin and Azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
