Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 8 year old daughter s middle and index finger on her left hand has been slowly swelling over the past few years. The only thing I can think of is that she had her adenoids and tonsils removed approximately 3 years ago. She was injected via her left hand to administer the anesthesia. Her pediatrician after telling us to keep an eye on it honored our request to refer us to someone who can give us a better understanding of what might be occurring. The hand specialist he sent us to ran some tests and told us he would get back to us and send some info to our daughter s doctor but he never did. I ve been regularly pushing my daughter s mother to take this seriously and follow up. Is there anything you can suggest?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As you have mentioned that swelling has developed. Is there any pain associated with it. or any restrictions associated with it? If so it can be any joints related disease like rheumatoid arthritis. Chances of developing swelling after 3 years following anesthesia is unlikely. Once test your kids ESR, CRP, RA factor, HB.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
