How Can Swelling On The Calf Be Treated?

My husband was playing cricket yesterday and was hit by the ball on his calf. The calf swelled and is 3 larger than the other and very solid and there is slight bruising where the ball hit. He has iced it and worn an elasticated stocking overnight should he be doing anything else?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may have got hematoma at the calf muscle due to blunt trauma by a ball. Diagnosis needs to be confirmed by local an ultrasound. Take Rest, apply ice on the affected site and keep the limb elevated. Start Tab. Chymoral Forte to reduce swelling. Tab. Diclofenac Sodium will relieve pain.

Hope this is useful.
