How Can Tinnitus And Dizziness Episodes Which Worsen While Lying Down Be Treated?

My daughter has been having a problem with ringing in the ears for about five years now. She developed dizzy episodes about two years ago. She describes it as feeling like she is tipping over, usually to the left. We have been to an ENT and had hearing test and balance test. She saw a neurologist last year and had a CT scan which was negative. Just recently she had an episode where she felt numbness in the tips of her fingers then tingling in her face and described her tongue as feeling big and numb all of these symptoms occured while she was sitting down. No hyperventilation took place, no bug bites, she wasn t taking any kind of medication, but was developing a sinus infection and had used zicam nasal spray for a couple days but not that particular day. She seems to feel like all of these symptoms specifically the ringing in her ears started after an ear infection from swimming five years ago. I am concerned with some of the new symptoms that she seems to be developing. The dizzy episodes seem to be getting more frequent. She eats well, drinks plenty of water, exercises regulary and is normally an active 18 year old. Most of the time the dizziness happens when she is sitting and recently she says it gets worse if she lays down, then it subsides. What are your suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Inner ear manifestation are ruled out by a ENT surgeon, CT brain is supposedly normal. I would progress with a MRI brain to look for cerebellar lesions, CT does not pick one.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pratik
