How Can Tremors And Pain In The Hands Be Treated?

Hi...My 94 year old Mom is having spells of shaking, primarily in her left hand. Her finger(s) can become stiff and painful. She gets anxious. She has neuropathy . This happens off and on for about 2 months. She wants to know if she should apply ice or heat. Thanks for your prompt reply. Lydia

Hi Lydia,

I understand your concern.

Spells of shaking in a 94 year old Mom is suggesting Parkinson's disease. Neurologist should be further consulted as prescription meds might be required.

Stiff and painful fingers are due to arthritis. X-ray of fingers should be done and rheumatologist should be further consulted.

For the moment, she can apply heat if no swollen fingers.
If fingers are swollen, should apply ice.

Anti-inflammatory meds (like ibuprofen, naproxen) can help reduce inflammation.

Wish fast recovery.
