I m having trouble emptying when I urinate. I m back in the bathroom within a half hour. But other times during the day I can go for hours. I drink regularly throughout the day because I m active all day long. I already know that I ve got a slightly enlarged prostate but this is getting worse. My PSA tests all show normal levels. The prostate is soft and smooth according to my last check up two years ago. I m a male age 55. There is no blood in my urine. At times during the day I just can t stop going to the bathroom. I ll wake up one or two times at night to go. I can feel that I ve still got urine in the bladder. I ve also go degenerative discs in the lower back and am wondering if a nerve isn t letting me relax enough to urinate. I think this because sometimes when I feel relaxed I can empty all the way. I m thinking to go to my urologist again for a check up.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* As per my surgical experience, the prostate does not sound to be sole reason for the urinary discomfort.
* Additional effect of neurology via spinal nerve root compression indicate major contributing factor. In our clinic, I recommend a uroflowmetry, MRI spine and CT scan abdomen & pelvis to find out the root cause and manage accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
