Hi and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern. Thank you for your question.
These
high blood pressure figures have to be brought under control. At this stage, it is not very important how great is the gap between the systolic and diastolic pressures, but it is rather important that these kind of figures, if they are long-standing and constant findings, have to be brought under control because of the risk they carry to quickly damage the end-organs, especially those who have a lot of small calibre arteries or arterioles, such as the eye and the
kidney. Starting on a therapy with two blood pressure-lowering drugs would be the appropriate approach at this moment, and a constant monitoring of blood pressure figures is mandated, to see if the drugs are working and to which stage are effective to control these figures, i.e. they should be kept under 140/90 mmHg. A combination of a
beta-blocker or a
calcium channel blocker, with an angiotensinogen converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE-I) would be reasonable, at this time. With the figures you provided, you are at risk to develop strokes, haemorrhagic or ischemic.
I hope this information helps you. Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Meriton
