How Do I Help With Withdrawal From Contin?

My pharmacy will not fill my rx for MS Contin for 3 days & I only have 1 left. I usually take 100mg tid. As I Said I have 1 left, they claim I should have 6 pills at home & I don t. How do I help with withdrawal. Ive been on them for years & this is the first time this has happened . Im an Rn (30+yrs) & feels embarrassed about this

Hi,

This is quite the difficult situation you have been placed in. There is no OTC medicine that really can alleviate the withdrawal from >100mg of morphine, and it will be quite uncomfortable for you if action is not taken.

Plan A: Take emergency contact to your doctor, if it is indeed so that you have never had this happen before, you should be able to get an emergency Rx to cover you for the next 72 hours.

Plan B: Do you have any friends or family with excess opiates from prior surgery etc.? If so, would it be possible for them to lend you some for the few days you would need?

Plan C: Wait as long as you can, preferably 24 hours or more and then take you last 100mg pill. That should cover you for 12 hours or so, and reset your withdrawals so that you only have to stomach 48 hours more before the Rx refill.

One last thing: Why did you miss 6 pills? This is important. Opiate addiction is no joke, and someone close to you might be helping themselves to your Rx.
