Hi Donna Whritenour,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
Without having any doubt regarding your diagnosis of Migraine as you said,I would hereby discuss the management for migraine. It is no different for
ocular migraine.
1)Eliminating the trigger factor-This is the actual cure of the disease. Please try to figure out the trigger factor which precipitates your headache and eliminate it from your lifestyle. It can be anything like
stress, sunlight, any food item like tea, coffee, cheese or smoke.
2)Abortive treatment therapy- Triptans,Ergot derivatives and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs(NSAIDS) are the main drugs for terminating the acute episodes. Please discuss with your physician to put you on medicine which suits you the best.
3)Preventive therapy-Tricyclic antidepressants, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers and anticonvulsants are the mainstay of preventive therapy. Please discuss with your physician to put you on medicine which suits you the best.
Proper management should provide significant relief. As far as your TMJ(temporo-mandibular joint) abnormality is concerned,It should at least be discussed with a
Rheumatologist. Meanwhile, some of the migraine medicines like
amitriptyline can effectively cover TMJ pain and stress headache as well.I hope it helps.
