Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 21 year ol female with all the classic signs of depression. I am completely miserable but terrified of taking the "magic happy pill". Should i ask my G.P. about antidepressants? I'm scared of being humiliated by being turned down or referred to a psychiatrist. I don't know how antidepressants work, could you give me a little insight on them? I would really like to feel better but are pills the only way?
If you have mild depression, then there is no need to take any antidepressant. In case of moderate to severe depression, you need antidepressant. That would help to control depressive symptoms. Better to consult a psychiatrist and let psychiatrist decided about the treatment. In case, you need further help, you can ask.
Thanks
