Hello and welcome to HCM,
Refraction errors can occur in children also.
Refractive errors are f two types-
myopia and
hypermetropia.
Myopia is short-sightedness and hypermetropia is long sightedness.
For clear vision, the image should form on the
retina.
In myopia the eye ball is slightly elongated and thus the image is formed in front of retina.
In hypermetropia, the eyeball is slightly shorter and the image is formed behind the retina.
The 'minus' or 'plus' glasses are used to correct the refractive error.
Your son is suffering from hypermetropia.
The power may increase since your son is only 5.
The size of the eyeball stabilizes when a child reaches adulthood.
You need to stay in touch with your ophthalmologist for reviewing the power of the glasses at regular intervals.
Watching television or computer screen for long duration can cause strain to the eye muscles and hence pain and watering of eyes.
Thanks and take care
