My husband, age 59, was diagnosed with a very large right side glioblastoma brain tumors on February 20th, 2018. He underwent surgery on March 2nd. The doctor was able to remove 95% of the tumor. He began Chemo and radiation in April, but unfortunately, the doctor has chosen to discontinue treatment as it did not help to shrink the tumor. Actually, it grew back even bigger and he developed a 2nd tumor in the right frontal lobe that grew extremely fast. We have tried bumping up steroids when he has episodes of brain swelling, and then dropping them down again when he starts doing better. Right now he s taking 4 mg per day but is extremely lethargic and week. Sleeps about 20 hours of the day and hardly talks at all. Everything I ve read so far says that there is no cure and the patients usually only survive approximately 1 year to 14 months, even with treatment. Is this true? Also, they started him on Avastin in the hopes of starving the blood vessels that are feeding the tumors. It makes him very sick and he sleeps for about a week after treatment. I m just not sure if it s worth putting him through it. What is your thoughts on Avastin and quality of life?
