How Does Parkinson S Disease Affect The Vision?

Please tell me about visual problems and Parkinson s Disease. My husband (67) Dx in 2009 has very different vision right vs left. He had bi-lat cataracts surgically repaired 4 years ago. He cannot place his finger on my hand with his right eye (covering the left) but does it perfectly with his left eye (covering the right) What do you think? Also - my husband, Pat, fell and badly broke his elbow on April 28, 2018. After surgery, 14 screws and a metal plate and 16 days inpatient, (including inpatient daily intensive therapies), he had sundowners / hospital dementia that got better for awhile at home when we had home therapists, but is now getting worse daily. This is including delusions and hallucinations - increasing to almost daily. Ever since his fall and hospital stay, Pat is going downhill fast. He used to do peddling, dancing, workouts all designed for PD patients 4-5 times/week and walked independently for more than a mile several times a day. Now he can barely get to a bathroom in our bedroom, cannot dress shower or make correct decisions. Falls several times/week. He did lose conscientious when he fell for about a minute. But he was doing so much more than now in the hospital than he can now. Really need help Seeing his ophthalmologist tomorrow, neurologist next Monday and ortho this week. nancy

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The main structure to be tested is optic nerves as optic neuropathy can occur in many neurological disorders and even with the medicines given for them. Please go for a fully dilated retinal check up only then we can make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshita
