How Does High TSH During 2nd Trimester Affect Fetal Brain Development?
Hello! I am 29 years old and it is my first pregnancy. In 27 weeks I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My TSH level was 7. In 12 weeks when I checked my TSH for the first time it was 2.75 and my doctor said that it was Ok so I didn/t do any more tests up until the 3 trimester when TSH raised to 7. So, as I understand my TSH was high during the whole 2 trimester and as far as I know it is the most important time for the fetus's brain development. Now I am worried that it could affect the baby's mental skills. Were there any cases when women gave birth to normal babies with high TSH in the 2nd trimester?
I really appreciate your concern, you need not worry about the organogenesis even if are having thyroid dysfunction, everything will be alright. I would suggest to keep taking the medicine for thyroid dysfunction without fear. Neither the medicine nor the TSH level would do anything to baby and stop worrying about this.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
