How Does One Deal With Cough Syrup Addiction?

dear doc,ive been browsing da net for atleast half an hour and have come to the conclusion dat my queries would be met.i have a brother of mine who has been abusing cough syrup for ten years or so.i wud be pleased to knw what are the ways of getting him back on life with your institutes help

The cough syrups which contain codeine generally cause dependence.
The withdrawl symptoms from this are painful.
The treatment is usually symptomatic.
Drugs like amitriptyline, diclofenac and cetrizine can be used for symptomatic relief.
Some clinicians prefer to use tramadol or buprenorphine for treatment.
I would suggest you to take him to a psychiatrist for a de-addiction treatment as drugs mentioned above are prescription drugs mostly.
