My 14 year old recently had his annual physical with the pediatrician. After the regular checkup, the doctor mentioned that my child was virtually done growing based on his stage of puberty. A few weeks later, at an orthodontic appointment, his ortho took a hand and wrist x-ray film. His estimate was for two to four years more growth based on an examination of his growth plates. We are getting two different opinions, here. Obviously, growth is difficult to predict, however, I am curious which analysis is typically more accurate: puberty stage or growth plate evaluation? Thank you.
