How Effective Are Antidepressant Drugs For Premature Ejaculation?

Antidepressant drugs prolong the time between arousal and ejaculation in some men. These are regarded as the most successful treatment for premature ejaculation. Antidepressants include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as sertraline and paroxetine. The tricyclic antidepressant clomipramine has been reported to be more effective than SSRIs, although it can cause dry mouth. Men may take these medications on a regular (daily) basis; intermittent use (three to four hours before planned sex) has proven successful for some patients. whate about ur sugestion?

In my opinion,antidepressants like paroxetine,might require daily dosing atleast for 1-2 weeks before showing its full efficacy.So clomipramine would be a good option than SSRI's for intermittent use.However long term therapy would be better,with newer generation ssri's like paroxetine than clomipramine.Hope this information helps you.If any further questions,happy to answer you.Take care.

Hello Welcome to HCM

SSRIs are effective drugs to delay ejaculation. Drugs like Escitalopram, Fluoxetine, Paroxetine prolong ejaculation and help in premature ejaculation. Newer SSRI drug Dapoxetine when taken about about 1-2 hours before intercourse help to delay ejaculation on SOS basis. These drugs are comparatively safer and are devoid of serious side effects.

TCA like clomipramine can prolong ejaculation to some extent but they are associated with other side effects. As better and safe drugs SSRIs are available as per my opinion they are better option.
