Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter have been bitten by our cat and got 3 shots of anti rabies. Just this morning she got a scratch from another cat which is owned by my aunt. Will i have tp bring her again to her pedia to get another shots of anti rabies vaccine? How long will the vaccine take effect on her? I just really need a very clear answer here. I m worried about her since the rabies is 100% fatal. Thanks.
If your aunt's cat is domesticated and if you can observe for 10 days, then I would ask you to observe the cat over 10 days. If the cat stays healthy without any rabid symptoms, your daughter might not need any vaccination again. If the cat can't be followed up or if it's already rabid, contact your local Public Health Service provider. The protection of rabies vaccine can be estimated by levels of antibody in the blood rather than period following vaccination. So you need to follow your public health guidelines in this case. I hope the above information helps you in deciding. I would have adviced the same to my patients. You can cross confirm this with your public health authorities on whether this is the similar protocol followed over there if you wish. Thanks.
