How Harmful Are Expired Drugs?

Hi, I pulled a a muscle in my back a couple of hours ago. NOT want to make an ER visit!! I have some Soma from previous injury but they expired 12-2011....I know most drugs now have up to like 5-6 yrs. that they re okay, so I wanted to check about these. They aren t discolored, chalky, no weird smell, etc. Just really hate going to dr. &/or ER!! I have heard that doctors are no longer dispensing Soma or they re taking them off the market, any truth to that?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The effectiveness of the medication can decrease if the expiration date has passed but in some cases this decrease can be minimal.

In terms of the soma particularly which is the trade name for the medication carisoprodol, it is still available for use at the moment.

I hope this helps
