I have taken synthroid for a few years. I also take an oral chemo pill for leukemia. I asked so many of my doctors why am I loosing my hair. No one said why. I am 73 and my endocronologist says I m loosing it because I m old. My chemo pharmacist answered when I asked him if the Chemo was causing the lose. His answer was you ve been taking it for 13 years so the answer is no. You are taking synthroid and that may be the cause, ask your primary care dr. My PMC got mad and walked out on me. My endocronologist says I m old, that s the cause. On line on my own I see synthroid probably is the problem. I asked my endo. to change the drug for another if possible. She put me on tirosint cap 88mcg. I ve been taking it for two weeks. I feel much better and it appears that my hair loss is not as prolific. I would say that the differrence in how I feel is to say synthroid seemed to be too strong and too hard on my body. The tirosint has made me feel less anxious, stressed, and like a lot has changed in my body and mind. Now I see that medicare part d does not consider it a formulary and without sufficient reason they will not cover the cost. I have called my endo and requested her to request an exception for coverage. I don t know what to say. Why was she so unencouraging during the last 3 years about my hair loss and poo poo ed me off when I susggested it may be synthroid. Why did I have to do my own research on line and continuously work to get someone to listen??? What do I do now? I m trying to get another PMC and would consider another endo... But I m beginning to feel all of them are alike, not too concerned and don t like to be challenged even if they are wrong. Tell me about tirosint compared to synthroid.
