How Is Childbirth Calculated Based On The AFI And Baby Weight?
My LMP was Jan 3rd and my EDD was Oct 10th. When I went to scan on Sept 4th, the scan showed amniotic fluid index as 9 and the EDD as Oct 22nd and my baby weight as 2.1kg. The scan showed i am 33wks pregnant, but my doctor says you are carrying a small baby and so the scan shows 33wks even though i am 35 weeks old. How to calculate the pregnancy week and arethe AFI and baby weight adequate for my pregnancy? Am i carrying a small baby?
hi,at 33 wks 2.1kg is not a small baby, but an average sized baby with absolutely nothing to worry.AFI of 9 is normal.you can calculate the gestational age as 28 days(jan)+28(feb)+31(march)+30(april)+31(may)+30(june)+31(july)+31(aug)+4(sept) will give you the no of days pregnancy at the time of scan then divide by 7 to get no of weeks.and the scan done in third trimester are not appropriate for dating or to determine the gestational age.its the scan done in first 3 months which is imp to determine EDD.and in the third trimester scan if gestational age comes less by 4 wks or more it is significant to call it a small baby.all the best and take care.
Hi, thanks for writing.. The actual EDD is calculated based on the first scan , so the EDD should be Oct 10.. You has small baby with decreased AFI. So a close monitoring of the baby growth along with AFI is important.. Any decrease in AFI require immediate intervention.. Drink lots of oral fluid.. Take protein rich diet.. Rest in left lateral position.. this helps in weight gain as well as increase in AFI.. Hope i have answered your query.. good day..
