Hi Sara,
Your son has got
pharyngitis based on symptoms of voice change and cough. So Azee will clear up infection. Ask him to take plenty of water and rest to voice. Add moisture to the air in your home with a humidifier or vaporizer
But as your son's voice is becoming weak, there is possibility of 2 other conditions which needs immediate
medical help.
1]. Laryngitis: inflammation of your voice box (larynx) from overuse, irritation or infection. Here there is risk of losing voice completely. Symptoms include hoarseness,
sore throat, dry cough.
Needs attention if hoarseness lasts for more than two weeks.
2] Epiglottitis: The most common symptoms include sore throat, muffling or changes in the voice, difficulty speaking, fever, difficulty swallowing, fast
heart rate, and difficulty in breathing.
Fever will be present with difficult breathing and swallowing. Needs immediate medical help.
If infection persists even with the drugs and hoarseness presents even after 2 weeks;
consult ENT specialist for further treatment.
Take care.
Best regards,
Dr. Neelam.
