How Long After Having Sex Can HIV Infection Be Detected?

Hi I got a phone call last night from a girl saying she had aids but I'm sure I usesd a condom I slept with a girl the day after and didn't use protection she got tested after fir everything and was fine dies that mean i will be ok or does it take time for HIV to happen???

Protected sex is generally considered to be safe in terms of risk from HIV. Nevertheless you still may get yourself tested for HIV and also other STD's as well.
Genital herpes, Warts and Molluscum can be transmitted in spite of using protection.
Screening for HIV can be taken up earliest at 4 weeks with a finger prick Rapid test kit. It detects the presence of antibodies against the virus. Most of those who are infected develop circulating antibodies at 4 weeks.
Occasional patients may not develop circulating antibodies for as long as 12 weeks.
Therefore this test should be repeated at 12 weeks to cover for the window period of HIV detection by antibody based test.
