How Long After Recovering From Mono Is Drinking Safe?
Hi I was diagnosed with mono on August 4,2013. My symptoms went away within the next week and I was feeling close to normal 2 weeks later. One thing my doctor never told me was how long I should wait to drink alcohol. When I drink a normal night is 8-10 beers a night but only once a weekend. Some articles online say 2 months. Some say 1 year I was curious how long I should wait to consume alcohol.
Mono infections are incredibly variable in severity. Ask around and see how many people report having it. Note that by age 20 nearly everybody seems to have been exposed and to be immune. Mono can affect the liver. This is measurable with liver function tests. Obviously if someone has signs of liver problems (jaundice) they can't drink alcohol. But if the liver enzymes never go up with the mono, and all signs of inflammation of the disease have been gone for a week, it is random to say there is a risk (when the person next to you could be in the same spot... most infections aren't noticed).
