How Long After Shoulder Replacement Surgery Can Arms Be Lifted Up?

Hello, I had shoulder replacement about 7 weeks ago, I been a BQT server at Hyatt 20 years. I need to get back to work for $$$ plus I m only 61 years old, They have saved my job for now but how long before I can lift above my shoulders, safely? Still pain full but what and how much should I do as far as movement and excise. they say don t lift more than a coffee cup I have lots out of habit, I don t want to over do it but still feel stiff and not much movement and muscle. And so little time before the dead line, at my age they don t have to keep my job forever. Thank You Dazzle

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

You should start physiotherapy and exercises by your physiotherapist as 7 weeks is good time to start movement.
You may need strengthening exercises under guidance.

If you are having persistent pain then you should consult doctor and should investigate further for cause of pain.

X ray or CT scan may help you.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
