How Long Can I Anticipate Keeping Catheter After A Hysterectomy And Bladder Sling Surgery?

I my name is Teresa and I just had a hysterectomy and a bladder sling on December 9th. I went home on the 10th but had to take home a cath. I went back to the dr on Thursday to have it removed and ended up in the er on Friday night having to have the cath replaced. Is that normal and how long can I anticipate keeping this in or to empty my bladder?

Hi,Dear.Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.
Yes it is quite a normal thing indwelling catheter after hysterectomy can be kept for 6 to 30 days without any complication.
You should not worry about it because it takes sometime to develop your normal bladder tone after the surgery.
Hopefully your ER will remove it within this week.So do not worry.try to stay calm and happy you will be fine.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.
